7/26/1998: Granite Cr., Boulder Creek to the Hoback River

Roger's group was scheduled to meed Sunday evening at the Gros Ventre Campground of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, beside the Gros Ventre River (Snake trib). Because they had such a shorter drive than the East Coasters, some of the Texans arrived Sunday morning.

After I awoke and had breakfast at the Hoback Junction river access and started driving toward the Gros Ventre CG I passed several vehicles with boats on top going in the other direction, so I turned around and followed them up the Hoback River. I caught up with them at a pullout where Granite Creek enters the Hoback (the usual Hoback put-in), and they turned out indeed to be part of Corbett's group. There was enough water to run Granite Creek, and this is what we did.

After getting off Granite Ceek I drove to the Gros Ventre campround and found an empty site. The group would stay here for the next six nights; I would stay for five.
