5/16/2010: Tellico R., White Bridge to Oosterneck pullout (Middle)

| This is almost a staple, because it is usually runnable this time of year; in fact, in a couple of recent years it has been too high, and we have driven up the watershed to catch things that Yankees are rarely fortunate enough to boat. 1.4' (220 cfs) is fairly low, but it is completely boatable at that level, and the Tellico is nearly everyone's favorite southern stream, so we were glad to get on it. The day was uneventful but a lot of fun, from the "white bridge" to Oosterneck Creek (where Tellico River Road meets the Cherohala Skyway). We had broken camp before boating, and drove from the take-out to the Moccasin Creek (GA) State Park CG about 12 miles west of Clayton, GA, stopping to eat at a placed called "USA Ribs" in Murphy, NC. Formerly for the Chatooga we stayed at the Tallulah Falls State Park CG, administered by GA Power and Light, but their rules and restrictions and arcane check-in procedures were so irritating that we tried a new spot this year, and Moccasin Creek was absolutely delightful. We wound up staying four nights there. |
