In the morning we (Mick and I from North Carolina and David from Virginia) drove to the Rio Chama put-in and met up with trip organizer Donna Grimes and others of her Houston Canoe Club, David and Dorothy from Georgia, Lee from North Carolina, and Dick from Pennsylvania.

The Rio Chama was an easy Class II stream that flows, we are told, strong and cool all summer long thanks to releases from el Vado reservoir.

After boating we drove to the Orilla Verde National Recreation Area along the Rio Grande, where Donna had reserved the group campsite at the Taos Junction campground. This was a lovely semi-desert campground where even the individual sites had adobe shelters. The group-site shelter was large enough that Mick pitched his bivy-cot right inside. We cooked dinner in camp again.
