8/3/2013: Stillwater R., Castle Rock CG to Cliff Swallow

| Either Eric had had enough boating or he took pity on me because I was going to bicycle the shuttle. Either way, he decided not to boat and took the van to Cliff Swallow to wait for us. David and I had a wonderful day on seven or eight miles of nearly non-stop Class II/III whitewater. Fortunately my illness had not yet peaked, because I would have been sorry to miss this lovely run. A two-boat trip with good current went quickly, and from the takeout we drove through Red Lodge and over the spectacular two-mile high Beartooth Highway to the USFS Crazy Creek Campground in the Gallatin National Forest, just outside the northeast entrance to Yellowstone. |
