7/4/2014: French Broad R., Section 9: Barnard to Hot Springs

	I led this group on Day 7 of the Carolina Canoe Club's annual Week of Rivers. We had good flow, so Windy Flats (below Stackhouse) was quite painless, even though it lived up to its name. We drove directly to the Barnard put-in to unload, then took all six vehicles to the NOC takeout on river right at Hot Springs. Two drivers, who had each driven to the river with only two people to the car, took all drivers back to the put-in. We had one swim in the rapid before Big Pillow and two in Big Pillow, but no other carnage. Lots and lots of practice rolls and a few surfing rolls. We split at Pinball rapid, half of us running the Pinball line and half of us running the creek drops on the right of the island. All 17 of us ran Kayaker's Ledge successfully. 10 of us ran Frank Bell's Rapid successfully while the other 7 of us ran the back side of the island without incident. At the end of the day we loaded all boats on the vehicles at the take-out and I drove four people back to their cars at the put-in. We had planned to rendezvous for dinner at el Chapala on Patton Avenue (right off Exit 44 of I-40) but we all arrived at different times to find it closed, so we all wound up at different "highway food" restaurants, since all the one-off restaurants were closed for the holiday.
