2/26/2017: Ocklawaha R., Gore's Landing to E. CR-316

We all paddled the Ocklawaha River from our campground to a boat ramp on a canal off river right just before the East Highway 316 bridge, at the top of an impoundment called Lake Ocklawaha. This was not a particularly interesting float, but it had the advantage that we could launch from our campground. This was particularly convenient because several of the group had arrived early and floated an upper section of the Ocklawaha, taking out in camp, so their boats were already on the ground at riverside.

Beverly and Lois had boated the day before and did not go with us; they met us at the takeout so we didn't need to run a shuttle. Since Lois was off that day, I took her place as Dan's bow paddler… my first time in a tandem since July 4, 1992, and it took some adjustment! Beverly and Lois had gone grocery shopping while we were boating, and they prepared us a terrific camp dinner of veggie/dip appetizers followed by chicken- and beef-kababs, with quinoa or potato salad on the side, and an assortment of cakes and brownies for desert.
