8/23/2017, French Broad R.: Section 10: Murray Branch to Bryant Hollow

| David suggested something new; none of us had run French Broad Section 10 before. The guidebook called it a 15-mile run from Hot springs to the first bridge in Tennessee, so from Hot Springs we drove downstream, river-right, 4.1 miles from US-25/70 to the lovely Forest Service Murray Branch Access, to put on. The take-out was about 200 yards downstream of the first highway bridge in Tennessee, making a total 8.2-mile run, so the full Section 10 from the NOC guide-house put-in would actually have been only 12.4 miles. This was very tame, with four or five Class II+ rapids, but it was very beautiful and quite isolated; just a few fishing cabins toward the end. We had dinner at La Carreta in Weaverville and got back to camp quite late. |
