7/12/2018, Boundary Waters: Entry Point 30: Kawishiwi River

With: Julie Keller-FitzPatrick, Sally Blauvelt, Bill Blauvelt, Jeff Resnick, Lauren Resnick

We collected two rented 17-foot Kevlar canoes from Frank at Kawishiwi Lodge (Sally and Bill had brought their own touring canoe) and set out upon our three-boat expedition. I paddled bow and Julie drove; fortunately, Julie is a leftie and I am a rightie, so we were a natural tandem team; both highly experienced solo whitewater canaoeists. The only minor problem was my tendency to try to drive from the bow, because I am so accustomed to steering my own boat.

We paddled southwest and then southeast across Lake One to a two-stage portage onto Lake Two at mile 3, and found a lovely campsite at the eastern end of Lake Two at mile 4 1/2. The site was up a cove which split into two smaller coves and the campsite was on the peninsula between the two small coves, so we had water on three sides. We would camp here for all three nights.
